Partita Sample
1991.
The last snowfall of the Soviet Union.
"I'm cold."
"Everyone's cold."
"Well I'm fucking freezing."
"It's winter."
"Hold me."
Mixing bleak circumstance with defiant optimism, in Partita, you play as one half of a queer couple separated during the collapse of the Soviet Union. As you weave your way towards the border, you’ll cross paths with a cast of other characters, each coming to terms with the end of the world you once shared.
Inspired by the photography of Christopher Hertwig, Partita combines branching narrative and rhythm game elements to explore the duality of reality and expectation. A story about finding joy in art and color and music amidst an era often washed in grey.
MY INVOLVEMENT
Original Concept
Writer and Narrative Designer
[For this sample] Programming
I originally proposed the concept to a team I'd joined as part of the April Global Game Jame in 2022. We started by commiting to the 48 hour timeframe but by the end we'd reached a consensus that the game excited us enough to keep pushing the project a little further. Currently we're looking at a late March release date.
As the lone (and sometimes lonely) writer involved in the project, I spent a considerable amount of time liasing with other departments, specifically art and audio. We placed a lot of emphasis on exploring the right balance of storytelling between design elements, and finding cohesion in terms of tone, scope, and ambition was my main goal.
